Cancer Self-Management

Cancer Self-Management is a six-week workshop that provides information and practical tools to help people with cancer and their caregivers manage symptoms, challenges and day-to-day tasks as presented in a small, supportive group setting. The workshop takes place Fridays, March 23 to May 4, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Wellness Center located at 10710 Charter Drive, Ste. 100, in Columbia.

Have you ever wondered what goes into an archaeology excavation? This is your chance to find out by participating in field and lab activities on site at the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park. April is Archaeology Month in Maryland and this is a perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty excavating a mock midden, articulating artifacts as well as sorting and learning to identify different types of material classes similar to what was found in the 1993 excavations on site. You also have a chance to tour the ruins and ask an archaeologist- as members of the Upper Patuxent Archaeology Group talk about their field experiences and answer your questions. Gain exclusive after-hours access to the B&O Ellicott City Station Museum, built in 1830 and in use through the 1940s. Take a guided tour of the historically rich, and possibly haunted museum. Then gather around a campfire in the old station turntable with s'mores and listen to the stories and legends surrounding this historic railroad station. Afterwards, soak up the atmosphere as you use the same equipment as professional ghost hunters to gather evidence of paranormal activity and draw your own ghostly conclusions! Come join us on July 10th for a special Civil War event. It was on this day, 153 years ago, that wounded civil war soldiers were sent to the station after the battle at Monocacy.
